A solution based on Digimarc technology, introduced by PACCOR, allows customers to use digital watermarking directly on the surface of plastic packaging without any extra marking like labels or direct print. The code is able to provide consumers and disposal companies with information about the respective packaging – anytime and anywhere.
PACCOR has been designated by Digimarc as a Platinum Pioneer Plastics Partner. The objectives of this partnership are to develop and commercialize a solution for high-speed sorting of plastic packaging items with Digimarc digital watermarking, for the purpose of increasing the recyclability and circularity of the plastic packaging products.
PACCOR is able to apply the Digimarc digital watermark using various technologies, such as thermoforming, injection, and compression molding labeling, as well as in printing on all decorative options (plastic sleeve and paper banderole). The Digimarc technology can be engraved in the mold or printed on a label on the outer packaging to give the package a “digital intelligence,” turning it into an Internet of Things object.
The new generation of DuoSmart® solutions allow having the Digimarc digital watermarking printed on the paper outer layer and engraved on the plastic cup. It can be scanned with any smartphone camera and will provide the consumers as well as the disposable companies with information about the respective packaging. Therefore, the combination of DuoSmart® and the Digimarc technology will provide everyone with relevant packaging information.
PACCOR is able to apply Digimarc digital watermarking using various technologies, also for injection molded, in mold labeled spread packaging. The Digimarc technology can be engraved in the mold or printed on a label on the outer packaging to give the package a “digital intelligence,” turning it into an Internet of Things object.
For trays, PACCOR engraves digital watermarking into the mold, creating a subtle decorative embossing effect. In essence, the packaging is given a “Digital Recycling Passport.” When waste is collected, it can be scanned and absolutely identified, no matter what color the tray is.
The main advantage of Digimarc digital watermarking, applied by PACCOR is that it can be extended imperceptibly over the entire label surface without interfering with the package design. It can also be extended decoratively over the entire plastic surface. Cameras, such as in sorting modules or smartphones, can capture these codes on the packaging.
